Brunch!! breakfast for the hungover? Glorified all day breakfast? Or an excuse for restaurants to sell you alcohol with your sausages. Whatever your take is on brunch, since coming out of lock down there has been an absolute boom in it’s popularity and especially thanks to this guy, “the bottomless brunch”.

If you think about it really what’s not to like?? To quote Guy Beringer the man who started it all “brunch has qualities no other meal could offer. “Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting.”

Is Brunch a British Thing?

Not at all, even though the British came up with it in the late 19th century its popularity has soared across the globe. In some countries it has become almost an institution. In Dubai, brunch is celebrated mostly on a Saturday and is a celebration in itself.

Unlike here in some places where you are given a 2-hour time slot, it’s a leisurely 4-hour affair with endless food dishes and free flowing drinks.

With some places offering over 100 different dishes from around the globe it’s pretty much unrivalled anywhere else in the world.

What Are UK Options Like?

That’s not to say we don’t have some great options here in the UK. We have a lot of places piggy backing on the success of the brunch trend by just adding a few egg dishes to their current menu. But who wants to travel to London for brunch when you can enjoy brunch in Ascot, Sunningdale, Windelsham or anywhere within Berkshire.

There is the popular bottomless brunch option where you are given a 1 ½ to 2-hour time slot where you eat and drink as much as you can in the given time. Then there is the brunch with bottomless bubbles where you choose one item from the menu with usually 90 minutes of bottomless cheap Prosecco.

There are plenty of great restaurants offering bottomless drinks packages with individual priced foods or a set menu choice.

Personally, this goes against everything brunch is supposed to be. A laid-back afternoon dining experience where a group of people take their time to enjoy some great food, drink some good quality bubbles and wine.

If you are looking for a more leisurely setup like a Dubai brunch where you just pay a single price and you have a 3–4-hour food extravaganza with high end wine and bubbles then this is much harder to find. Only a couple of the 5-star London hotels offer something remotely similar.
